Hong Kong Food Hackathon 2019: An Innovative Weekend For HK Foodies
Create your own contemporary twist on Hong Kong food classics and rethink F&B in HK!
As a technologically-savvy city, Hong Kong is often at the forefront of new technologies and trends. However, there is a need, currently, for new innovators to begin [1] "disrupting the food system" to create a more circular economy. This is why Hong Kong Hackathon, which is back for its second year in a row, is seeking students and professionals in different industries to come together and [2] "create new HK-inspired recipes as well as designing new business plans to tackle human and environmental challenges."
The Hackathon is the brainchild of Hong Kong Poly U Design, The Future of Urban Food Network and Melee. The event will take place over 20-22nd September, 2019 and will be presided over by distinguished[3]"food innovators, futurists and NGOs." The idea is that participants in this event will be split into multi-disciplinary teams to tackle how [4] "new business models, data and technology can be used to support changes that can lead to healthy, nutritious, trusted, transparent, informed and more efficient food systems."
How it works:
1. You will be assigned into a team of people with various different skills that can range from students, engineers, F&B experts, farmers and more.
2. Recreate classic Hong Kong recipes while thinking about how to maintain the theme of a circular economy
3. Research and development will also be judged at the end of the weekend
4. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the duration of the event
